One of my biggest dreams it's create a Sustainable Microbrew Factory.

We started to cook beer (My friend Claudia and I) like 5 years ago...I don´t remember how we think to start with this...now I remember...was in a industrial materials class and we knew it that we both wanted to start a project together but we could not decide between

1) make craft beer (we had attended to a course about beer and we liked) or

2) make paste membrane ( her father had the tools and machines)

So we decide asked our teacher by that moment. Pablo Vizcaino...an expert of materials...zirconio is his favourite. He, obviously, recomended us to make the paste membrane...something more profitable in these days in Argentina. So we listened carefully but we decided finally make craft beer....I think we already knew that we had the desire for it...just needed it the approval from our favorite teacher...It was not the case...but we follow our instinct....and yes...he had right...make craft beer was not profitable for us...maybe the paste membrane was the best option for make money....but we made good memories instead...we were really happy making our own beer!

Talking about the process, we realized that we were wasting a lot of water (like 200 lts) in each batch of 50 lts of beer :s...in the following batch we started to save the water in a bin and use it for clean the floor and our cars.

We still are thinking how to do this brewing process more efficient in each stage:

1) Milling

2) Mashing

3) Lautering

4) Boil

5) Fermentation

6) Conditioning

7) Packing

8) Enjoy it...(efficiency at this stage was impossible as our families drank all the beer immediately)

About the step number 3)

Lautering is a process in brewing beer in which the mash is separated into the clear liquid wort and the residual grain. Lautering usually consists of 3 steps: mashout, recirculation, and sparging.

My friend Claudia did a thesis about what to do with this residual grain....delicious bread!

At least we know how to take advantage of the waste water and grain but there are a lot of thing to do in this plane...like how to use the power of thermodynamics in the step 4) and another issues.

As I was telling in the beginning...this is one of my dreams...

Create a Sustainable Microbrew Factory and so this can be a model for another factories. :)
